Matt began his photography career on his high school newspaper where he worked as the sports editor his senior year. He did some time in Western Kentucky University's photo program but ultimately transferred to the University of Kentucky where he earned his BS in Journalism in 1999. He has worked as a staff photographer at the Island Packet on Hilton Head Island, SC and covered Duke athletics for Duke University Photography in Durham, NC. He lives in Lexington, Ky with his amazing wife Jen and a dog named Charlie.

Matt has covered five Kentucky Derbies, two Final Fours, three tornadoes, two US Presidents and a hurricane. His work has been featured in The New York Times, NY Post, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, ESPN the magazine, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Lexington Herald-Leader, The Courier-Journal, BloodHorse Magazine, Thoroughbred Times and Velocity.
